O Clássico
On Avenida Serpa Pinto, and the answer when you cannot face another grilled fish. Tiago is blunt that you cannot beat their vitela, and its regulars order the same thing: the roast veal first, the cabrito after it, both out of an oven rather than off a grill. The room is calm and nobody hurries you out of it.
- From Beach Family House
- 5 min walk · 2 min driveon Rua Brito Capelo in Matosinhos
- Best for
- The roast vitela, when everyone else in Matosinhos is eating fish
- Worth knowing
- Closed Mondays, and on Sunday it serves lunch only, 12h–15h, with no dinner. The rest of the week runs 12h–15h and 19h–23h with the kitchen shut in between. The listing's band is 15–35 € a head, which is wide because a plate of roast veal and a plate of bacalhau are not the same bill. Vegetarians should look at Terrárea instead: this is an oven and what comes out of it is meat.
Avenida Serpa Pinto 410, a couple of streets back from the grills — and the place to know about on the night nobody wants fish.
The vitela
Tiago's verdict is short: you cannot beat their vitela. Its regulars order it too — the roast veal first, the cabrito after it, and assada, roasted, is the word that keeps coming back. In a town where the kitchens are built around a charcoal grill, this one is built around an oven, and that is the whole reason to walk to it.
If the table is split, the octopus and the bacalhau are what people order next.
A room that lets you stay
The room is the opposite of the grill street at 13h: excelente ambiente, calmo, empregados sempre atenciosos, sem apressar a saída, as one review has it. Calm, attentive, and nobody rushing you towards the door. That is worth knowing when you have booked somewhere for a long lunch and want it to actually be one.
Before you walk
Closed Mondays. Sunday is lunch only. Otherwise 12h–15h and 19h–23h, and 15–35 € a head.

The recommendation on this page is his, first-hand, from eating here as a resident rather than as a visitor — which is the only basis on which this hub recommends a restaurant at all. What he vouches for is the food and whether he goes back. He is not a critic, has not eaten the whole menu, and everything else on this page — hours, prices, what other people order — is sourced separately and marked.
- O Clássico · Google Business Profile · 2026
The business's own listing, read 8 September 2026, and the source for the hours and the price band. Its reviewers mention vitela 80 times, cabrito 52 and assada 36, then polvo and bacalhau; it opens Tuesday to Saturday 12h–15h and 19h–23h, Sunday 12h–15h, closed Monday, at 15–35 € a head. Hours and prices are what the business publishes about itself; the dish tallies are Google's count of how many reviewers mentioned a thing, which is evidence of what people order, not of whether it is good. The star rating is not cited.
